What SpaceSense actually does

Your lights can become part of the sensing system

SpaceSense measures disturbances in the Wi-Fi communication between compatible WiZ devices. When the system detects movement in the configured area, it can trigger the lighting behaviour you chose in the WiZ app.

That means motion-based automation can be added without fitting a separate physical motion sensor in the room.

Compatibility first

What you need for SpaceSense

The old blanket statement that every WiZ light supports SpaceSense is not accurate. Check these requirements before buying around this feature.

2+ compatible lights

You need at least two compatible WiZ lights in the same physical room. More compatible devices can improve sensing accuracy.

Bluetooth-enabled WiZ generation

WiZ devices that support Bluetooth can use SpaceSense. Older Wi-Fi-only devices do not gain SpaceSense support.

Correct positioning

The processor devices should generally sit about 2–6 metres from the beacon, with the beacon nearer the centre and processors nearer room edges.

Same Wi-Fi channel

The sensing devices must communicate on the same Wi-Fi channel. On mesh systems, that generally means the same access point.

WiZ states that SpaceSense has been tested for indoor residential use. Mesh networks and repeaters can affect performance, so placement and network topology matter.

The WiZ app is where you enable SpaceSense, select the devices, set sensitivity and decide which light mode should trigger. You can still use schedules, app control and other supported controls alongside the sensing setup.

What to expect in a real home

Does SpaceSense need a physical motion sensor?

No. The feature uses Wi-Fi sensing between compatible WiZ devices, so a separate physical motion detector is not required for SpaceSense itself.

How many compatible lights do I need?

At least two compatible devices in the room. WiZ notes that additional compatible devices can improve sensing accuracy.

Are all older WiZ lights compatible?

No. SpaceSense works with WiZ devices that support Bluetooth. Older Wi-Fi-only generations do not support the feature.

Can mesh Wi-Fi affect SpaceSense?

Yes. WiZ warns that some mesh networks and repeaters can reduce performance. The participating lights should be on the same Wi-Fi channel and normally the same access point.

Does it work perfectly in every room?

No sensing technology should be treated that way. Room geometry, device placement and the Wi-Fi environment influence results. Test the actual room and adjust the configuration.
